    RUSSIAN MINISTER SAYS THIRD PARTIES MUST NOT IMPOSE KARABAKH SETTLEMENT

    [Presenter] Peacekeeping forces may be deployed in Nagornyy Karabakh
    in the foreseeable future. For the last 12 years the ceasefire in this
    region has remained very fragile. Today in Baku Russian Deputy Prime
    Minister and Defence Minister Sergey Ivanov spoke about the future
    of the territory which causes tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

    [Ivanov] Russia has spoken about the problems of Nagornyy Karabakh on
    several occasions, advocating a peaceful, political solution to these
    problems. In my view, any plan for a settlement enforced from outside
    is not only counterproductive, but also very dangerous. The final
    formula for the settlement must primarily be based on agreement between
    the two sides, Armenia and Azerbaijan. And if such an agreement is
    reached, then the mediating countries will, naturally, propose any
    measures needed to ensure this agreement is implemented.
