NUMBER OF THOSE WHO WISH TO TAKE PART IN ELECTIONS INCREASES DAY BY DAY, SHAVARSH KOCHARIAN STATES

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, NOYAN TAPAN. Many problems accumulated in
the country cannot be solved and the external dangers cannot be
resisted until the power is formed of people's own free will. Shavarsh
Kocharian, Chairman of National Democratic Party (NDP), stated at the
April 27 press conference. "With May 12 elections we are obliged to
finally overcome the "tradition" shameful for our country, according
to which the power is not formed by the people, therefore it does
not serve the people," he said.
In his words, the rumors about people's passivity spread by the
authorities do not correspond to reality. S. Kocharian said that
according to the results of NDP's surveys, the number of those who wish
to take part in the elections is increasing day by day. He also denied
the opinion that the results of elections are predetermined. "Those
who spread rumors about elections' being predetermined strive or
involuntarily contribute to the situation when everything in the
country remains the same," S. Kocharian said.
