    Prosecutor killed in Armenia region

    YEREVAN, August 26 (Itar-Tass) -- A prosecutor of the Armenian
    region of Lori was killed overnight to Saturday at the regional
    center Vanadzor (former Kirovakan) in northern Armenia. State
    Councilor Albert Kazaryan was coming home from work, when at about
    00.20 local time (23.20 Moscow time) an unidentified gangster fired
    four shots at him, press-secretary of the Armenian Proseuctor General
    Sona Truzyan said.

    The 56-year-old lawyer died in the hospital without regaining
    consciousness. He got three penetrating wounds and one blunt wound in
    the back, shoulders and the loins. Four shells from a Makarov pistol
    were found at the murder site, the press secretary emphasized.

    A group of investigators headed by acting Prosecutor General
    Mnatsakan Sarkisyan went to Vanadzor. The murder site and the body of
    the killed prosecutor were examined, forensic, ballistic and trace
    evidence expertises will be held.

    The investigation department of the Prosecutor General's Office
    instituted criminal proceedings. A group of investigators was formed,
    including experienced officials of the Prosecutor General's Office,
    police and the national Security Service. All necessary measures are
    being taken to investigate the details of the murder and find the
    killers.

    Kazaryan graduated from the law department of the Yerevan State
    University in 1974. He worked in the Armenian prosecutor's office and
    as a prosecutor in various regions fo the republic. He was appointed
    as prosecutor of the Lori region in March 2006.
