"ARMY SHOULD GRADUALLY PASS ON TO CONTRACTUAL BASES," PSYCHOLOGIST DAVID JAMALIAN SAYS

YEREVAN, AUGUST 1, NOYAN TAPAN. In parallel with the development
of the economy, the army of the Republic of Armenia should pass
on to contractual bases, at the same time preseving the principle
of recruitment on military principles. This statement was made by
David Jamalian, a candidate of psychological sciences, at the press
conference, which was held on August 1.

"If the country has enough means for recruiting sergeant corps on
contractual bases, then the quality of army will be greatly improved.

Special and professional subdivisions should also pass on to
contractual bases. However, levy as such should be preserved,"
    he mentioned.

According to David Jamalian, at present, the primary issue of military
psychology is "to provide the adaptation of recruited young people with
scientific methods under the circumstances of military service." He is
of the opinion that promotion measures are of essential significance
for this case: particularly, the formation of a conviction among the
young that military service is inevitable.

According to David Jamalian, the experience of Israel as well should be
localized and studied. The psychologist mentioned that the pupils of
senior classes are sent to the army for a few weeks in Israel, where
they pass the first level of getting used to military service. This
method provides an opportunity to find out before their recruitment
for what each of them should be engaged in the army and to make a
    target use of their potential.
