Private of the Armenian army, Ambartsum Asaturyan, crossed the
frontline and surrendered to the Azerbaijani party voluntarily,
reported an informed military source. The Baku office of the
international Red Cross committee confirmed this information adding
that it forwarded the relevant information to the state commission
for prisoners of war, hostages and missed in action. According to the
same source, the Red Cross is holding the relevant negotiations with
Azerbaijani authorities in the framework of its mandate. The accurate
place and time of the frontline crossing by the Armenian soldier is
not reported. The motives of the defection are also unknown.
