    CHERKIZOVSKY MARKET EXPLOSION CASE HANDED OVER TO MOSCOW CITY COURT

    The case on the explosion in the Cherkizovsky outdoor market in August
    2006 has been sent to Moscow City Court.

    "This criminal case has been sent to Moscow City Court to open a
    trial," Moscow City Court spokeswoman Anna Usachyova told Interfax-AVN.

    The case hearing is expected to be held with participation of the jury,
    as requested by some of the defendants at a preliminary hearing.

    There are eight people on the dock: Sergei Klimuk, Dmitry Fedoseyenkov,
    Nikolai Kachalov, Nikita Senyukov, Nikolai Korolyov, Oleg Kostarev,
    Valery Zhukovtsev and Ilya Tikhomirov.

    The defendants are being charged with terrorism, establishing and being
    involved in a criminal conspiracy, illegal storage and acquisition of
    weapons, ammunition and explosives and illegal manufacture of weapons
    and explosives.

    According to investigators, in spring 2006 the defendants carried out
    eight explosions, including the one in the Cherkizovsky market. The
    first crime was committed on April 22, 2006, when the Fortune Teller
    Liliana's Center was exploded. Also, the defendants are being charged
    with explosions outside a students dormitory, at a mosque in Moscow
    region, and at the Russky Vestnik newspaper's office.

    Some of the defendants are facing charges of the murder of Armenian
    student Vigen Abramyants in 2006.

    The explosion in the Cherkizovsky market occurred on August 21, 2006.

    As a result, 13 people, including two children, were killed and 47
    people with wounds of various degrees of severity asked for medical
    help.
