ARMENIA'S FM CONGRATULATES LEBANESE ARMENIAN "AZDAK" NEWSPAPER ON ITS 80TH ANNIVERSARY

    ARKA News Agency, Armenia
    Feb 21 2007

YEREVAN, February 20. /ARKA/. Armenia's Foreign Minister Vardan
Oskanian congratulated the Editor-in-Chief of Armenian newspaper and
the staff of Lebanese Armenian Azdak ("Signal") on the 80th anniversary
    of the newspaper.

"Azdak" started when the Armenian diaspora was experiencing hard
times of formation and made great contribution to protection and
development of Armenian life, says the FM's letter of congratulation.

    >From the beginning and up to now the editorial staff of Azdak, even
in unbelievable conditions, has showed will, vigor and courage and
ensured the uninterrupted publication of the newspaper, Oskanian said.

According to him, any periodical issued in Diaspora is something more
than just a mass media outlet: it performs an educational and cultural
mission to preserve the national traditions, the Armenian language
and Armenian upbringing. Azdak accomplishes its mission fully and
devotedly through its everyday efficient efforts, Oskanian said. He
pointed out the diversity in Azdak's coverage of local, regional and
international events and particularly events taking place in Armenia.

According to Oskanian, the most important achievement of the newspaper
is the provision of the latest important news and information, which
is being then used by other diaspora media outlets.

Armenia's FM also appreciated the newspaper's contribution to
improvement of relations and development of partnership between
    Armenia and Diaspora.

The 80th anniversary of Azdak is a remarkable event for its readers
as well, since on the newspaper's pages they keep their finger on
the pulse of the past, present and the future of the Armenian people,
    Oskanian said.
