MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF ORIENTAL ORTHODOX BISHOPS OF THE WESTERN UNITED
STATES
On Monday, January 15, the first meeting of 2007 of the Council
of Oriental Orthodox Bishops of the Western United States took place at St.
Maurice Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles. The meeting was hosted by
H.G. Bishop Serapion of the Coptic Orthodox Church, with the participation
of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, H.E. Archbishop Hovnan
Derderian, Primate, H.E. Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan of the Syriac Orthodox
Church, and H.G. Bishop Joseph Al-Zehlaoui of the Antiochian Orthodox
Church.
The gathering began with morning services, during which prayers
and blessings were offered according to the traditions of each church.
Following a reception, the Prelates met to discuss matters of concern to
Oriental Orthodox Churches, ranging from administrative issues to Religious
education and youth activities.
The next meeting of the Council of Oriental Orthodox Bishops is
scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 6, at St. Mary's Armenian
Church in Glendale hosted by Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian.
