Poignant film remembers global casualties
by Ed Holmes 18/01/2007HOLOCAUST Memorial Day will be marked with the
screening of a poignant film at Kenilworth's Talisman Theatre.
It will host a screening of Shooting Dogs, which tells of events in a
Rwandan school during the genocide of 1994 when it became a haven for
thousands of refugees escaping violence which killed more than
800,000 people in just three months.
Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27, remembers victims of genocide
around the world, from the concentration camps of the Second World
War to more recent events in Armenia, Bosnia, Cambodia and Kosovo.
The evening is organised by Leamington-based relief and development
charity CORD, which provided education and healthcare in the wake of
the Rwandan conflict 13 years ago.
Richard Dickson of CORD, said: "We're very grateful to the Talisman
theatre for agreeing to show this film.
"Our experience in helping people affected by violent conflict from
places like Rwanda, Cambodia, Vietnam and Darfur is that we still
need to learn the lessons of history.
"This is CORD's first event during our 40th anniversary year and
we're hoping that as many people as possible will come to see this
incredible film."
Entry to the 15 certificate film at the Barrow Road theatre is free
and on a first-come basis. To reserve a ticket call CORD on 01926
