ASHES OF FAMOUS ARMENIAN BENEFACTOR ALEX MANOOGIAN AND HIS WIFE RE-BURIED IN HOLY ETCHMIADZIN

YEREVAN, JULY 18, NOYAN TAPAN. The re-funeral ceremony of Alex
Manoogian, the life President of the Armenian General Benevolent Union,
and his wife took place in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on July
17. Before this the ashes of Alex and Marie Manoogian were buried in
Detroit (the United States).
The coffin of Alex Manoogian, a National Hero of the Republic of
Armenia, was covered with the state flag. The burial rites was
conducted by Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II in the open-air
sacristy, which was built by the charitable means of Louise Simon
Manoogian, that is to say, the daughter of the Manukians. After the
burial rites the ashes of Alex and Marie Manoogians were buried
in front of the treasure house, which was built due to their own
charitable means.
Robert Kocharian, the President of the Republic of Armenia, Tigran
Torosian, the Speaker of the RA National Assembly, Serge Sargsian, the
RA Prime Minister, Arkady Ghoukassian, the President of the Republic
of Nagorno Karabakh, as well as other high-ranking officials took
part in the funeral procession. According to Louise Simon Manoogian,
the re-funeral of the ashes of her parents was conducted on the
initiative of the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.
