PARLIAMENT WILL PASS AMENDMENTS TO ELECTORAL CODE BEFORE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Republican Member of Parliament Samvel Nikoyan told reporters today
the autumn session of the National Assembly will probably pass
amendments to the Electoral Code. The amendments will be related to
the presidential election of 2008. According to Samvel Nikoyan, the
parliament will review the provisions on transparency and control of
the funds and expenditures of candidates. According to him, instead
of the civil initiative nominating a candidate a candidate will
nominate himself.
Samvel Nikoyan thinks there will be a number of candidates from
both the opposition and the forces which were not elected to the
parliament. The race will be tough. The government will not put up
an imitation candidate because it is not necessary.
