GUNDUZ AKTAN: TURKEY CAN PLAY A MORE ACTIVE ROLE IN FAVOR OF AZERBAIJAN IN OSCE MINSK GROUP

"The main problem for Nationalist Movement Party is to prevent
terrorism. We will adopt all necessary laws for this. If necessary
we will announce state of emergency," former extraordinary and
plenipotentiary ambassador, political correspondent of Radikal and
Turkish Daily News newspapers, first candidate of Nationalist Movement
Party Gunduz Aktan told APA exclusively.
He said that terrorists arrive in Turkey from North Iraq.
"We should perish terrorists in North Iraq. Present government did
not much pay much attention to these issues. Prime Minister says they
can carry out military operations in North Iraq if necessary. Why have
not they carried out these operations up to now? We will hold adequate
actions before military operations. For example, we will close Habur
border checkpoint, cut off North Iraq's electricity. If North Iraq does
not take lesson we will carry out military operations. We will remove
irresolute points in the relations with the European Union after the
elections. Turkish people do not deserve ignorance of European Union,"
he said.
Aktan underlined that National Movement Party plans to establish
Turkish World Ministry.
"The ministry will have broader opportunities than Foreign Ministry.
Raising the level of relations with Azerbaijan as well as with other
Turkish-speaking states will form the basis of our foreign policy.
The US and European Union demand us to open borders with Armenia.
They want us to normalize our relations with Armenians and set up
diplomatic mission in Yerevan. Unless Karabakh problem is solved we
do not support improving Turkey-Armenia relations. We will support
Azerbaijan. We will increase the number of Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey
projects. Unless Karabakh problem is solved Armenia should remain alone
in the region. Unfortunately, Turkey receded into the background in
OSCE Minks group. If Azerbaijan demands Turkey can play a more active
role in favor of Azerbaijan in OSCE Minsk group.
Otherwise Turkey will not be able to participate in the resolution
of the problem," he said.
