G8 FM: ESTABLISHMENT OF PEACE AND STABILITY IN SOUTH CAUCASUS IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT KARABAKH CONFLICT

Establishment of peace and stability in the South Caucasus is
impossible without settlement of the Karabakh conflict, the chairman of
informal meeting of Foreign Ministers of the "Eight" (G8) in Potsdam
said, the Russian Mass Media report. To note, however, the Karabakh
problem was not included in the meeting agenda.
"The Foreign Ministers of G8 were unanimous that the conflict
resolution between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Nagorno Karabakh is
compulsory for establishment of peace and stability in the region",
the statement says. The G8 Ministers support the efforts of OSCE
MG Co-chairs and urge the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan to
increase their efforts for achievement of unanimity on the basic
principles offered by OSCE MG Co-chairs. "In view of this, we welcome
the intention of the both presidents to meet within the frames of the
session of CIS informal summit in St. Petersburg on July 9, 2007 and
urge them to reach an agreement on the basic principles as to open
a way for peaceful settlement of the conflict", the statement says.
