    BIOGRAPHIES OF VICE-SPEAKERS OF RA NA OF FOURTH CONVOCATION

    YEREVAN, JUNE 8, NOYAN TAPAN. On June 7, Vahan Hovhannisian, member
    of ARFD Bureau, and Ishkhan Zakarian, member of the Political Board
    of Bargavach Hayastan (Prosperous Armenia) party, were appointed
    Vice-Speakers of NA of fourth convocation.

    Below the biographic data of Vahan Hovhannisian and Ishkhan Zakarian,
    RA NA Vice-Speakers, are presented.

    Vahan Hovhannisian was born on August 16, 1956, in Yerevan. He
    graduated from the Moscow Pedagogical University. He is a historian
    and archeologist, as well as candidate of historical sciences. In
    1978-1980 he served in the Soviet army. In 1980-1989 worked as a
    research officer, manager of the scientific-research department
    at Erebuni museum, in 1989 reseearch officer at the Institute of
    Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences.

    In 1990-1992 he took part in the Artsakh struggle of liberation. In
    1990-1992 he was member of ARFD Armenian Central Committee and in
    1992-1995 of ARFD Bureau. In 1995-1998 he was in prison. In 1998-1999
    he worked as Adviser to RA President, chairman of the commission on
    the self-goverment issues. In 1999-2003 RA MP (Constituency 17). He is
    Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Defence, National Security
    and Internal Affairs. He is member of ARFD faction. On May 25, 2003
    he was elected RA MP by ARFD proportional electoral roll. On June
    12, 2003, he was elected NA Deputy Speaker. He is member of ARFD
    Bureau. On May 12, 2007 he was elected RA MP by ARFD proportional
    electoral roll. On June 7, 2007 he was elected NA Vice-Speaker. He
    is married and has two children.

    Ishkhan Zakarian was born on October 21, 1961, in the village of
    Zovashen in the region Ararat. In 1979 he left school in Byuravan
    with a gold medal. In 1984 he graduated from the History faculty of
    the Yerevan State University with diploma with honour and went to
    work in the Yerevan City Board of Gitelik company as an organizor
    of lectures. In 1989-1990 he worked as secretary of Spandarian's
    district committee of Young Communists' League. In 1990-1993 he was
    Vice-Chairman of Youth Union of Armenia. In 1993 he was appointed
    deputy head of RA goverment's Physical Culture, Sport and Youth
    Affairs' department. In 1995 he was elected RA MP. He was member of
    NA Standing Committee on Defence, National Security and Internal
    Affairs. In 1997 he was appointed RA Deputy Minister of Culture,
    Youth Affairs and Sport. In 2000-2004 he was Chairman of RA National
    Olympic Committee. In 2003-2007 he worked as Chairman of RA goverment's
    Physical Culture and Sport State Committee. He was awarded Movses
    Khorenatsi medal and Sign of Honour superior order by the Association
    of International Olympic Committee. He is member of Bargavach Hayastan
    (Prorperous Armenia) Political Board. On May 12, 2007 he was elected
    RA MP by the proportional system of Prosperous Armenia Party. On
    June 7, 2007 he was elected NA Vice-Speaker. He is married and has
    three children.
