FOR INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY IT IS IMPORTANT THAT STABILITY BE IN SOUTH CAUCASIAN REGION, POLITICAL SCIENTIST SUREN ZOLIAN SAYS

YEREVAN, JUNE 12, NOYAN TAPAN. Without solution of the problem of
Nagorno Karabakh status, the discussion of which the Azerbaijani side
avoids, hardly ever any progress will be registered in solution of
another issues - those of territories, borders, refugees and other
derivative ones. Political scientist Suren Zolian gave assurance
at the June 12 press conference. In his words, "Azerbaijan avoids
discussion of the essence of the problem, as it is obvious that this
is the self-determination right of Nagorno Karabakh people."
In political scientist's words, the current format of negotiations
- Armenia-Azerbaijan, has been forced by the mediators. "But in
the respect of negotiations tactics this even gives advantage: the
international community (Azerbaijan, too) leaves only one possibility
to NKR, to make part of Armenia, as today NKR keeps all contacts,
all relations with the world through Armenia," S. Zolian said.
In connection with Azerbaijani side's statements that the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict can be solved only through a war, S. Zolian said:
"The Azerbaijani authorities so much spoke about impossibility
to make concessions that they can become the hostage of their
statements." However, for the international community it is important
that stability be in the region. In S. Zolian's words, "Azerbaijan
will just not be allowed to endanger programs "costing billions"
in the region only because that country's ruling clique wishes to
satiate its own appetite."
