VICE SPEAKER OF RA PARLIAMENT: ARMENIA SHOULD BUILD ITS RELATIONS WITH IRAN BASED ON SOVEREIGN NATIONAL INTERESTS

The statement of Charge d'Affairs of USA Ambassador to Armenia
Anthony Godfrey saying that the USA is concerned about extension of
cooperation between Iran and Armenia, is a hint that Yerevan should
be more circumspect in its relations with Tehran, vice speaker
of RA Parliament, member of Bureau of ARF "Dashnaktsutiun" Vahan
Hovhannissian said at today's press- conference.
"However, Armenia is a sovereign country and it should choose by itself
who to build relations with based on its national interests", he said
and added that the world community treated Armenia-Iran cooperation
intelligently so far as it realizes that a country in blockade has
no special choice for cooperation. Moreover, he said, Armenia signed
almost all the international agreements for non- proliferation of
weapons of mass destruction, so Armenia behaves stainlessly in this
sense and the USA has nothing to worry about in this regard. Moreover,
V. Hovhannissian said, accusations brought against Iran have not been
proved as yet.
