"AUTHOR OF INNER-PARTY REVOLUTION IN CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT UNION IS CHAIRMAN OF OYP," HRANT KHACHATRIAN BELIEVES

YEREVAN, JUNE 22, NOYAN TAPAN. The author and organizer of the
inner-party revolution attempt, which was undertaken during the
conference of the Constitutional Right Union in September 2006, is
the former NA Speaker Arthur Baghdasarian. This statement was made
by Hrant Khachatrian, the Chairman of the Constitutional Right Union,
at the June 21 press conference.
In his opinion, Arthur Baghdasarian should himself have got guarantees
that the Constitutional Right Union will support him as an opposition
candidate.
H. Khachatrian mentioned that among other parties the Constitutional
Right Union has cooperated with the Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law)
party, and Haik Babukhanian, the Head of the official journal Iravunk
(Right), the Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Right Union,
has maintained relations with that party on his own errand.
However, Haik Babukhanian's relations with the Chairman of the Orinats
Yerkir party became deeper and deeper, and they worked out a joint
program, according to which the guilt of the inner-party revolution in
the Constitutional Right Union should be put on the authorities. That
was the reason that Karen Vardanian and Sedrak Vardanian, supporters
of H. Khachatrian, were accused of being the agents of Serge Sargsian,
the former Defence Minister.
The Chairman of the Constitutional Right Union believes that a number
of other parties, Azgayin Miabanutiun (National Unity) and Dashink
(Alliance), in particular, supported H. Babukhanian, aiming to use
the opportunities of the Weekly Iravunk (Right) the most in the
pre-election period.
H. Babukhanian was even involved in the pre-election roll of the OYP,
but there were objections in the party, and Arthur Baghdasarian refused
to support him, differing from the National Unity and Alliance parties.
H. Khachatrian mentioned that the goal of these discoveries is to
deprive H. Babukhanian of support. He expressed conviction that this
statement will bring an end to the inner-party split. As for the OYP
Chairman, Arthur Baghdasarian can confirm or deny his statement and
go to court if he wants.
