ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTER WELCOMES AZERI ENVOY'S VISIT TO KARABAKH

Yerevan, 29 June: Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan today
welcomed the joint trip of representatives of the Armenian and
Azerbaijani intelligentsia to Stepanakert ,Yerevan and Baku, which
took place on 28 June.
Vardan Oskanyan described the initiative as "an encouraging step"
and expressed the hope that it will "have its continuation".
The Armenian foreign minister stressed that "without re-establishing
contacts and the atmosphere of confidence, it will be extremely
difficult to settle the Karabakh conflict".
Answering Mediamax's question, Vardan Oskanyan said that the initiators
of the meeting were the Armenian and Azerbaijani ambassadors to Russia
and that the presidents of the two countries had approved the idea
during their recent meeting in St Petersburg.
