CHINSURA, MARCH 6, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. His Holiness Karekin
II Catholicos of All Armenians left on March 1 Calcutta for Chinsura,
the earliest Armenian colony of Western Bengal (no Armenian lives
today in Chinsura). The Patriarchal delegation visited in Chinsura
the Surb Hovhannes Mkrtich (Saint John the Baptist) church which was
built in 1697 and is the second ancient church of Westen Bengal. As
Noyan Tapan was informed by the Information Services of the Mother
See of Holy Etchmiadzin, in the church His Holiness prayed the God
for rest of souls of all those Armenian sons who once revived this
prominent center of Armenian life in Far East.
