  • If Sezer Does Not Veto Parliament, People To Elect Pres. in Turkey

IF SEZER DOES NOT VETO DECISION OF PARLIAMENT, PEOPLE TO ELECT
    PRESIDENT IN TURKEY

ANKARA, MAY 11, NOYAN TAPAN. The National Grand Assembly of Turkey
adopted in the second reading and completely on May 10 the legislative
package on making amendments to the Constitution. The package involves
a principle, according to the which the President must be elected not
by the parliament but by the people.

After having been adopted by the National Grand Assembly of Turkey,
the package of amendments must be presented to affimation by country
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. But, as the Turkish press states, there
are rumours that it is possible that Sezer vetos the decision on
electing the country president by a state vote.
