Daily says Armenia to pursue pro-Russian line in next five years

An Armenian independent daily has said that the victory of the
governing party in the 12 May parliamentary vote means that Armenia
will be pursuing a pro-Russian line in the next five years. In the
meantime, pro-government Hayots Ashkharh said that the Republican
Party had finished first because of its well-organized campaign. The
following are quotes from Armenian newspapers on 14 May:
Azg (independent daily): "Irrespective of what shape the newly-elected
parliament and future government will take, the sweeping victory of
the Republican Party in the election points to absolute pro-Russian
control in our country... It is obvious that as a result of the latest
election the speaker, the prime minister and most probably the
Armenian president will be representatives of the Republican Party,
and in the next five years Armenia will lead a Moscow-oriented foreign

Hayots Ashkharh (pro-government): "Because of a successful and
well-organized campaign, the Republican Party of Armenia was able not
only to finish first but also to be remarkably ahead of its main

Aravot (opposition daily): "It is more difficult than it may seem at
first glance for the government to remain in power. Unless there is a
majority of trusted and conscious citizens, the government will always
find ways to stay on, even if revolutions happen every other day."
