Javier Solana: The parliamentary elections in Armenia met the OSCE and CoE
standards

EU High Commissioner for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier
Solana congratulated the Armenian nation for the success registered at
the parliamentary eklections held May 12.
Armenpres was told from Javier Solana's Office that the EU High
Commissioner said, in part: `The parliamentary elections in Armenia
met the OSCE and the Council of Europe standards, and I urge the
Armenian Government to rapidly react to the shortcomings registered by
the international observers.'
`This is good news and it will have a positive influence on the
EU-Armenia relations, especially considering that these are the first
elections after the signing of the EU-Armenia Action Plan. The
Armenian people demonstrated a great political maturity in the current
elections. I'm sure the European Union and Armenia will continue
developing the relations in the atmosphere of partnership,' said
Javier Solana, adding that this will be a positive signal to the other
countries of the region.
He also congratulated the observers who participated in the elections
`on the occasion if the successful completion of their important
mission.'
