ARMENIAN'S NON-CONSTRUCTIVE POSITION IN PEACE TALKS DOES NOT SATISFY LARGER PUBLIC'S INTERESTS

    Trend News Agency, Azerbaijan
    May 16 2007

    Azerbaijan, Baku / Òrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / Armenia's non-constructive
position in peace talks meets the interests of only a particular
group in the country according to Araz Azimov, Azerbaijani Deputy
Foreign Minister; the Azerbaijani President's personal representative
was speaking on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on 16 May. Azimov
urged Armenian society to think over how its actions affect its
own interests. According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, only one
particular group of people are satisfied with Armenia's approach to
the peace talks but not all of its public is content. Mr. Azimov
added that Armenia had not benefited in any way from the war with
Azerbaijan and the occupation of Azerbaijani territories.

The peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia should be continued
within the framework of the Prague Process, Azimov said. As to the
statements on the negotiations made by the US Co-Chairman of the OSCE
Minsk Group, Mathew Bryze, Azimov said that the statements reflect
the interests of the United States. Mr. Bryze's statements are an
attempt on behalf of the Minsk Group to inform the rest of the world
    of the conflict.

As to the statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on secret
details of the peace negotiations, Azimov stated they would not
negatively affect the settlement of the Karabakh problem. "President
Aliyev will, in a principal way and in proper time, clarify his
position. From this point his statement will not negatively affect
    the negotiation process," he noted.
