WHEN THE GENERAL PROGRAM OF RECONSTRUCTION OF SHUSHI WILL BE ADOPTED

The coordinator of Rebirth of Shushi Foundation Mkrtich Karapetian
says they have a number of programs, but there is much more to do in
Shushi. However, he said in drafting the programs they figure out the
priorities and take into consideration the local peculiarities. One of
the most urgent problems is unemployment, and the development of the
town includes creation of jobs. Among the peculiarities Mkrtich
Karapetian pointed to the travel resource, and he thinks that the
long-term programs should include this sphere. `The travel center is
already under construction, which will be also the coach station. It
is thought to deal with the development of tourism more fundamentally.
In three months the construction will finish, and we will dedicate
it,' said Mkrtich Karapetian, the coordinator of Rebirth of Shushi
Foundation. On the other hand, the development of tourism helps create
jobs. The coordinator of the foundation says they have already
organized three-month classes to train personnel for hotels and
services. The specialists were invited from Yerevan, and after the
classes they will get some practice in Yerevan. `They will find jobs
by all means, about ten will work at the travel center. Besides, a lot
of hotels, restaurants are being built, which need trained personnel.'
The center will also organize tours to Shushi. Besides, the travel
center, the foundation and the NKR ministry of education have
initiated the conservation of 12 important historical and cultural
buildings of the town. The foundation also deals with water supply and
drainage systems of Shushi. The dedication of the Yerevan Cinema
overlapped with the May Holidays. The foundation organizes tours to
Armenia for children of Shushi. In January ten schoolchildren visited
Yerevan and Echmiadzin. The foundation has foreseen the reconstruction
of the Green Pharmacy. The citizens of Shushi will be able to buy
medicine more cheaply.
Another program includes the creation of an ophthalmological
clinic. However, the reconstruction of Shushi will be better
coordinated after the adoption of the general program of
reconstruction.
