ARAX RIVER BED RISES

MEGHRI, MAY 18, NOYAN TAPAN. On May 15 the bed of the Arax River
rose by about 80 cm, as a result of which the water pumps Alvank,
Shvanidzor and Arax 1 used for irrigation of the city of Meghri and
adjacent areas were covered with water. NT correspondent was informed
at Meghri mayor's office that the engines of pumps Alvank and Arax 1
were removed, while that of Shvanidzor remained under the water. After
the rains stopped, the river-bed has relatively dropped. No other
incidents have been registered.
