We promote economic development in Karabakh

The Rebirth of Homeland NGO was set up in September 2006. The
organization implements projects in association with the Armenian
government, the Heifer Project International and Armenia Foundation.
The NGO implements an agricultural program of aid to refugees, as well
as underprivileged families in remote villages and the villages of
Martakert which were affected by the war in Artsakh, namely Janiatagh,
Mokhratagh, Talish and Vardadzor. `It's a pilot humanitarian project,'
said Taron Hakobyan, the chair of the organization, professor of
history at Artsakh State University, in an interview with the
KarabakhOpen. `I think it is necessary to provide the basic conditions
for normal life, especially for people living in rural areas. The
viability and security of the country depends on how strong villages,
especially the ones near the border are. We pursue a social and
economic policy, we promote the economic development in Karabakh.'
The Rebirth of Homeland has already aided 58 families, with both
technical and methodological assistance in cattle breeding. The
organization cooperates with the ministry of agriculture and the
foreign ministry of NKR. It holds trainings and provides extension to
the rural population.
`We do not want people to get used to free living. To avoid this, in
three years after providing aid (a cow) the family gives the calf to
the organization in accordance with a contract. The organization hands
over the calf to another underprivileged family. Besides, we provide
medicine for cattle, as well as extension. We have people in every
village who supervise the program.' The villages and families are
chosen together with the regional administrations. `For us,
confidence is important, and satisfaction of people. And they are
satisfied.'
