THEY UNDERSTAND IN INTERNATIONALLY NOT RECOGNIZED NKR THAT FALSIFICATION OF ELECTIONS MEANS "DEATH"

YEREVAN, MAY 25, NOYAN TAPAN. Besides Bako Sahakian, the Director
of the NKR National Security Service, candidate nominated at the NKR
elections by the ruling administration, other four candidates were also
nominated. As Manvel Sargsian, the Director of the Caucasus analytical
center, politician stated at the May 25 meeting with journalists,
this circumstance will give possibility of holding alternative, and
consequently, normal elections. In his words, an active competition is
promoted at present mainly between two of the candidates, B. Sahakian
and NKR Deputy Foreign Minister Masis Mayilian.
"Now it is important, that the elections are held fairly and
corresponding to democratic standards, and the people of Karabakh
have active participation in the electoral process," M. Sargsian
mentioned. In the politician's words, the circumstance of the NKR not
being an internationally recognized state at present "makes officials
a bit more organized." In M. Sargsian's words, they understand in
Karabakh that falsification of the elections means "death."
