"STUDENT'S COUNCILS HAVE BECOME STRUCTURES SERVING FOR AUTHORITIES," CHAIRMAN OF "SARGIS TKHRUNI" UNION SAYS

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The student councils of the higher
educational institutions of Armenia, in reality, do not defend
the rights of students, they carry out the instructions of the
higher educational institutional administration. Particularly those
instructions, which concern this or that piar-action organized in
favour of the state power. This statement was made by Narek Galstian,
the Chairman of the "Sargis Tkhruni" Youth Student Union of the
Social-Democratic Hnchak party, at the press conference held on
November 6.
He regarded as inadmissible such a position and mode of action of
student councils. "Student councils, the leaders of which are mainly
the leaders of the Republican party, have become structures serving
for the state power and resemble the Young Communists' League,"
N. Galstian mentioned.
According to him, only 19.8% of students has ever turned to student
councils with a question and only 21.9% of student trust in the
councils of their higher educational institutions, according to the
results of the monitoring recently conducted by the "Sargis Tkhruni"
organization. It should be mentioned that the monitoring was conducted
among 450 students of nine higher educational institutions.
