    Armenian Cultural Heritage

Discussion by Architectural Historian Steven Sim (Glasgow, Scotland,
UK) will take place at the G Hall of the St. Vartan Cathedral complex,
630 Second Avenue, New York, NY
    Accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation

    Thursday, November 15, 7:00 p.m.

Organized by Dr. Anahit Ter-Stepanian with support from the Krikor and
Clara Zohrab Information Center of the Diocese of the Armenian Church
    of America, Eastern.

A presentation about Armenian cultural heritage in Turkey and the
complexities related to its destruction, its survival and the
    potential for its preservation .

Steven Sim will explore the range of Armenian buildings and related
monuments that still survive in Turkey. He will talk about what has
survived, what is their current condition of preservation, what are
the attitudes to them from Turks within Turkey and from Armenians and
non-Armenians outside Turkey, what are the problems that are impacting
the surviving buildings, and what solutions would best ensure their
survival. Steven Sim will also address newer emerging issues - such as
the recent spate of restorations of questionable quality: the recent
restoration of the buildings on Aghtamar Island being the best known
    example of this.

Event is open to the public.
