DASHNAKTSUTYUN WELCOMES NDU AND CALLS FOR A UNITED FRONT

    Lragir, Armenia
    Nov 28 2007

The representative of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun Supreme Body Armen
Rustamyan who may be nominated for the presidential election addressed
the conference of the NDU on November 28. Armen Rustamyan said the
ARF Dashnaktsutyun welcomes the decision of the NDU to nominate a
presidential candidate because the NDU is a force of idea, a staunch
force. Armen Rustamyan said ARF Dashnaktsutyun thinks it is highly
important for a genuine political process, a genuine election in
Armenia because it believes that there cannot be elections with a
predetermined outcome because only people can decide the outcome of
    the election.

Armen Rustamyan says this is the reason why the ARF Dashnaktsutyun
decided to nominate a candidate to ensure a high level political and
ideological debate. The debate, Armen Rustamyan says should involve
forces which have a distinct ideological basis and political programs.

The next important step, according to Armen Rustamyan, is to control
the election. "We do acknowledge this, we know from experience
that nobody can do it alone because the vicious mechanisms are
unfortunately so firmly fixed in the Armenian election process that
a separate party, a separate political force can do nothing about
it, and the presidential election showed it," Armen Rustamyan says,
noting that a front should be set up to hold a normal election.

He says it prompts the necessity for a pole which fosters
unification. "In this connection, we welcome the idea that we do not
need to nominate persons and invite to come together around these
persons which is the reason for failure to unite but the ideas should
be outlined which may bring together, and we will come together around
these ideas. I think this is the right approach, and we welcome this
approach and are ready to contribute to it and to enable unification
based on values and ideas," Armen Rustamyan says.

According to him, if it is fulfilled, he is sure that the presidential
election will be overcome in this stage, and Armenia will pass it with
a clear vision of future, and there will be a president who will not
disappoint people any more, and will not say one thing and do another
thing, which Armenia has already experienced, Armen Rustamyan says.
