WE SEE VICTORY OF OUR CANDIDATE AT FIRST STAGE IN CASE OF GOOD ORGANIZATIONAL AND IDEOLOGICAL WORK, RPA DEPUTY SAYS

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The candidate of the Republican
Party of Armenia (RPA) has all chances to win the first stage of the
2008 presidential elections, Mkrtich Minasian, member of the National
Assembly "RPA" faction said at the October 5 press conference. In his
opinion, the RPA candidate will win if the party will do "serious
ideological and organizational work" along with "pragmatical,
nonpopulist approaches" shown in solution of social problems,
activities of the government and the prime minister and during his
meetings with residents of the marzes.

Responding to the question about whether the RPA views the first
Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrosian as the leader of the opposition,
    M. Minasian said that no single opposition leader has been formed and
probably will not form because of the absence of "community of ideas"
    in the opposition field.

In response to the question: "Is the RPA going to use black PR and
remind the faults of the first president," M. Minasian replied that
the "weapon of action and counteraction will be used". He added the
both rank-and-file members of the RPA and those among the country's
authorities were offended by the "mafioso" expression used by
    L. Ter-Petrosian.

In the opinion of M. Minasian, the current inspiration about
    L. Ter-Petrosian is a "haze, image, mentality". "Of course, there are
some groups - former fragments of the Armenian National Movement who,
naturally, became inspired as L. Ter-Petrosian is their most serious
leader. But we do not see the people feel inspired," the deputy said.
