MTS RECEIVES 3G FREQUENCIES IN ARMENIA

    TeleGeography, DC
    Oct 10 2007

The Public Services Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Armenia
has allocated domestic mobile operator K-Telecom with the requisite
frequencies to operate a 3G network in the country. According to
reports from Telecompaper, the allocation is valid for a ten-year
period. K-Telecom is an 80%-owned subsidiary of Russian mobile operator
Mobile TeleSystems (MTS). The Russian firm had been anxious to secure
3G bandwidth in Armenia to keep pace with ArmenTel, itself backed
by another Russian cellco Vimpelcom, which secured 3G frequencies in
the 1929MHz-1935MHz and 2110MHz-2125MHz range on 8 October.
