    ARKA News Agency, Armenia
    Oct 18 2007

YEREVAN, October 17. /ARKA/. A working meeting chaired by RA President
Robert Kocharyan and attended by RA Minister of Education and Science
Levon Lazarian and the rectors of Armenia's state-run higher schools
discussed issues of reforms of Armenia's higher education system
    within the Bologna process.

During the meeting the RA President pointed out the importance of
such discussions for understanding the rates and consistency of
reforms in the country's higher schools, reports the RA presidential
    press service.

Minister Lazarian informed the meeting participants of the work
to form a united educational environment and of the three major
tasks the reforms are aimed at - introduction of a credit system,
three-stage education system and a quality estimation system.

The rectors of Armenia's higher schools presented the existing problems
    and the necessary measures.

The RA President stressed the importance of coordination of reforms by
all higher schools. Otherwise, the process will not produce desired
    results.

The meeting participants also discussed the problem of graduates'
employment. In this context they stressed the importance of bringing
the specializations taught in higher schools to conformity with the
    requirements of the labor market.

The Bologna declaration was signed on September 18, 2002. Armenia
acceded to the declaration in 2005. The principles of the Bologna
process have been applied at the State Engineering University in
Armenia, State Linguistic University, Russian-Armenian (Slavonic)
University, State Agrarian University and Yerevan State University.
