    WHY DID AHMADINEJAD LEAVE?

President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
interrupted his official visit to Armenia and left for Iran
in haste. This incident provoked many deliberations in Armenian
    political spheres.

According to Victor Sogomonian, the President of Iran left because
of some urgent business. Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Gevorg
Garibjanian adds that the hurried departure of Ahmadinejad was
caused by serious problems in Iran. Mr. Garibjanian says that
the Armenian Foreign Ministry is informed about the reasons of the
Iranian President's departure and the situation in Iran, but refuses
to make any comments for the press. According to the Vice-Minister,
the visit of the President of Iran to Armenia has not been aborted,
    only its schedule has changed.

In any case it is worth to mention that yesterday morning Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad has a meeting with the Speaker of the Armenian National
Assembly Tigran Torosian. To the meeting were also present Foreign
Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian, Power Engineering Minister Armen
Movsisian, Foreign Minister of Iran Manuchehr Motakki, Chief Councilor
to President Ahmadinejad Samareh Hashemi and other officials. It is
known that before leaving Ahmadinejad had a meeting with the Iranians
    residing in Armenia.

There are many rumors about the hasty departure of the President
of Iran. In particular it is said that the situation was caused by
difficulties on the Turkey-Iran border. It is well known that with the
Kurdish question is very actual in Iran, as a number of armed Kurdish
organizations are functioning on its area. Francepresse reports that
Ahmadinejad left Armenia because of the discussion of Iran's nuclear
program in Rome. It should be reminded that Iranian representative in
Rome, Ali Larijani, resigned from his office. Other sources suggest
that Ahmadinejad left Armenia so as to avoid visiting Tsitsernakaberd
and the Museum of the Armenian Genocide. Iran is working to improve
its relationships with Turkey, and the latter reacts very painfully
to any mentioning of the Genocide. Victor Sogomian referring back
to the visit of the Preisdent of Iran adds that Robert Kocharian and
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had settled all the questions during their meeting.

Last of all, the Iranian "Irna" news agency spreads Ahmadinejad's
message that he has completed his visit to Armenia and returned
home. The Preisdent officially denies that his visit to Armenia was
interrupted and he was urged to return to Teheran in haste.
