REPUBLICANS DISTINGUISH BETWEEN FREEDOM AND DISORDER

    Armenia

The representatives of the Republican faction declined to comment
on the clash between policemen and the participants of the peaceful
march on October 23 in Yerevan during the parliamentary briefings
on October 26. "This is a legal problem, and a political evaluation
should follow the legal one. Public order and human freedoms are set
down in the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.

If the Constitution of Armenia was violated, by both parties, if
human rights are violated, it is to be condemned, and so did the
leader of our faction, if public order was violated, it should also be
condemned. Why? Because we must understand that freedom is the right
to do everything that is not prohibited by the law," says the press
secretary of the Republican Party. At the same time, the Republican
refers to a European example in an effort to justify the action of the
police. Recently, in Brussels, if I am not mistaken, at the heart of
Europe, the police cracked down on about a hundred protestors, and
no influential media stated human rights are violated at the heart
of Europe. I think protection of public order and freedom of speech
should be defined and should be distinguished. If the law enforcers
state there was a violation of public order, it means there was a
violation, Edward Sharmazanov says. As to violence against reporters,
on hearing about it Edward Sharmazanov thinks "every citizen, a member
of parliament, a reporter, should act in accordance with the law,"
says the spokesman of the Republican Party.
