EDUARD SHARMAZANOV: TODAY IT IS ABSURD TO SPEAK ABOUT HISTORIC NECESSITY OF NOMINATION OF LEVON TER-PETROSIAN AS INDIVIDUALITY AND POLITICIAN

    Sep 5, 2007

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, NOYAN TAPAN. "RPA has an exact political
program, political team, and an exact leader in the person of Serge
Sargsian," Eduard Sharmazanov, the party's Spokesperson, stated at
the September 5 press conference. Saying that it is very probable
that RPA will nominate Serge Sargsian's candidature for the 2008
presidential elections, he expressed an opinion about the presence
of a public demand for that nomination. According to E. Sharmazanov,
"that is our voters' confidence, which became clear during the May
    12 parliamentary elections."

Touching upon the first RA President's possible running for the
elections, the RPA Spokesperson said that "today it is absurd to
speak about the historic necessity of nomination of the candidature of
Levon Ter-Petrosian as an individuality and a politician." According
to E. Sharmazanov, such a necessity emerges when the country is in a
critical situation, and in Armenia today we have neither a critical
    nor a semi-critical situation.

Meanwhile, E. Sharmazanov said that the years of L. Ter-Petrosian's
tenure were first of all years of victory and not only "years of
cold and darkness." However, according to him, it is not right to
give the laurels of victory only to the former authorities or only to
    L. Ter-Petrosian. "The whole Armenian people should enjoy the laurels
of victory, and they first of all belong to the persons buried in
    Yerablur," E. Sharmazanov said.

In response to the question of how during the presidential elections
RPA as power is going to fight electoral violations also committed
during the parliamentary elections, E. Sharmazanov said that "there
is no country, which is free of electoral violations." Nevertheless,
according to him, RPA "will fight them the way it fought on May 12
    and more intensively."
