OVER 18.3 BILLION DRAMS ALLOCATED TO ARMENIA'S AGRICULTURE, FOREST AND WATER INDUSTRY AND FISH-BREEDING IN 2006

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 7, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenia's agriculture, forest and
water industry, and fish-breeding were financed in the amount of over
18.3 bln drams (about 45.75 mln USD) from the 2006 state budget, which
was 93.4% of the envisaged sum. The deviation from the programmed index
was mainly conditioned by the low fulfilment index of some credit and
grant programs financed from foreign sources. The RA deputy minister
of finance and economy, chief treasurer Atom Janjughazian said at
the September 7 joint sitting of the RA NA standing committees that
expenditures on the indicated sectors increased by 39.1% or about
5.2 bln drams as compared with 2005.

These expenses acoounted for 3.8% of the overall budgetary expenditures
    against 3.2% in 2005.

Expenditures on land improvement amounted to 3.6 bln drams,
exceeding by 35.4% the programmed index, which was due to the high
fulfilment index of the WB credit program on development of irrigation
systems. Expenditures on this program made more than 2.6 bln drams.

State budgetary expenditures on fish-breeding and water industry made
2.1 bln drams, on veterinary services and anti-epidemic measures -
1.4 bln drams, on forestry - about 1.2 bln drams.

Half of expenditures on agriculture - about 9.2 bln drams was allocated
to pedigree stock breeding, seed growing and other programs. The
fulfilment index made 104.1%, which was due to the high fulfilment
index of the IFAD-financed program on economic development of rural
areas. 3.7 bln drams envisaged by the state budget for the program
on subsidies to irrigation systems was allocated fully.
