ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH CELEBRATES ST. VIRGIN MARY'S BIRTHDAY
Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin
St. Mary every year on September 8, Ararat Diocese media department
reports. `The birth of St. Virgin is not described in the Bible. It
has reached us through sacred traditions of the church. The parents
of the Virgin, Hovakim and Anna, could not have a baby for a long time
because Anna was sterile. One day when Anna goes to a garden to pray,
an angel of God appears and brings the news that she will have a baby
who will be blessed by all nations. Anna brings her gratitude to God
for listening to her prayers and for having pity on her. She makes a
vow to devote her son to the God.
The same sight appears to Hovakim, as well, bringing the good
news. The father of St. Virgin glorifies the Supreme for being awarded
and makes offering of best sheep by distributing the meat among the
poor. Anna gets pregnant and delivers a baby whose name was Mary,
meaning enlightened. She was the one whom God honored to be the Mother
of God due to her virtues.
As a mother she was troubled and suffered for her Son but she was
never afraid and did not protest against God with a high awareness of
the entrusted mission to her. She is a symbol of a moral, believer
mother and protector of the sacredness of the family that every
Armenian mother and every Armenian girl that is going to become a
mother must follow,' the report says.
