JOINT ACC, PRIMATES COMMITTEE TO MEET SEPT. 24

    Living Church Foundation, WI -
    09/17/2007

The Joint Standing Committee of the Anglican Consultative Council
(ACC) and the Primates will meet Monday, Sept. 24, in New Orleans,
a spokesman for the ACC has announced.

On Thursday and Friday, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and
the members of the joint standing committee will attend the first two
days of the House of Bishops' meeting at a New Orleans hotel for 10
    hours of closed conversation.

Archbishop of Wales Barry Morgan, a member of the committee, said the
meeting would be an opportunity for "us to meet the U.S. bishops,
listen to them, observe and help formulate advice to give to the
primates. We want to find a way around differences of opinion within
the church over homosexuality to keep the Communion together."

On Saturday, the members of the joint standing committee will join
members of the House of Bishops in clean-up and reconstruction work
    in New Orleans.

Archbishop Morgan said he was not "much of a carpenter -- I've got
two left hands when it comes to DIY -- so I expect I'll be clearing
    rubbish or painting walls.

"There is still a huge need for practical help and emotional support in
the city, and I'm sure there will be plenty we can do over the weekend
and whenever there is a lull in proceedings in the meetings," he said.

On Saturday, Archbishop Williams will leave New Orleans and travel
to Armenia, Syria and the Middle East.

Other members of the joint standing committees scheduled to attend
the New Orleans meetings are ~U Archbishop Philip Aspinall, Australia
~U Presiding Bishop Mouneer Anis, Jerusalem and the Middle East ~U
ACC chairman Bishop John Paterson, New Zealand ~U ACC vice-chairman
George Khoshy, South India ~U Philippa Amable, West Africa ~U Jolly

Illangasinghe, Ceylon ~U Canon Elizabeth Paver, England ~U Bishop
James Tengatenga, Central Africa ~U Nomfundo Walaza, Southern Africa.

ACC secretary general Canon Kenneth Kearon, deputy secretary Canon
