Primate Galstanian Meets Mayor Karen Karapetyan in Yerevan
A meeting was held on March 25, 2011, in Yerevan-Armenia, between the
Primate of the Armenian Church Canadian Diocese, His Eminence Bishop
Bagrat Galstanian and the Mayor of Yerevan, His Worship Karen Karapetyan.
The topics under discussion included issues relating to advancing the
development of ties, between Montreal and Yerevan, technical exchanges and
    training programs.
Primate Galstanian conveyed the sentiments and willingness of Mayor Gerald
Tremblay of Montreal, to support and develop mutually beneficial
cooperation between Montreal and Yerevan, as agreed upon within the
framework of the signed agreement between the two sister cities. Bishop
Galstanian reaffirmed his ongoing commitment to this initiative and
reiterated that the Armenian Church Diocese of Canada will be actively
involved in the process and will provide all ongoing and necessary
facilitation through its Office of Governmental Relations.

Mayor Karapetyan welcomed the Primate with high appreciation, and praised
the efforts of the Canadian Diocese. Mr. Karapetyan acknowledged the
importance of enhancing the cooperation and development between Yerevan
and Montreal and all cities where significant relations have already been
    established.
The honourable mayor of Yerevan also informed the Primate about the
creation of a new website initiative called, `Ognir Dbrotsit' (Help
Your School) aimed at encouraging Armenians, living in Yerevan or outside,
to offer support to their schools. The mayor is assured that this portal
will work in a transparent and efficient manner. The Primate welcomed this
initiative, adding: `I am a son of this city and will happily contribute
towards the needs of my own school.' He also promised to inform, the
Canadian Armenian community, about this important initiative.

Matters relating to the proposed Montreal Park in the city of Yerevan were
also reviewed. The city of Yerevan will present a project plan to their
Canadian counterpart in the near future.
