PRESIDENTS' STATEMENT ON KARABAKH INDICATES TIME FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION RUNNING OUT - EXPERT

YEREVAN. - Presidents' statement on Nagorno-Karabakh issued at the G8
Summit in Deauville on Thursday is somehow different from the earlier
adopted statements.
The presidents urged the conflicting parties to finalize the basic
principles for the conflict resolution. They gave to understand that
the time for conflict resolution is running out, Karen Bekaryan, Head
of the European Integration analytic center told a press conference
on Friday.
The expert also stressed that some pressure on the conflicting parties
is felt in the statement, particularly if the sides fail to come to
agreement, the mediator countries will take other measures.
"The trilateral statement reiterates firmly unacceptability of use of
force. It refers merely to Azerbaijan, as Armenia was never engaged
in military rhetoric," he noted.
According to Bekaryan, the presidents' statement encourages Russian
side's efforts and it is not by accident that the co-chair countries
refer to the upcoming summit of presidents in Kazan.
"The statement is aimed for Azerbaijan to prepare its population to
the conflict resolution and establishment of peace. When it comes
to signing a peace agreement, the presidents indicate involvement of
all sides, including Nagorno-Karabakh," Bekaryan concluded.
As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Presidents of Russia,
France and U.S. issued a joint statement on Nagorno-Karabakh within
the framework of G8 Summit, Thursday.
"We reiterate that only a negotiated settlement can lead to peace,
stability, and reconciliation, opening opportunities for regional
development and cooperation," they said in a statement.
