JAVAKHK ARMENIANS APPEAL TO ARMENIAN PRESIDENT

The Country union received a petition signed by more than 1,600
citizens of Javakhk.
Addressed to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, the petition is
in defense of the Javakhk-based Armenian political figure Vahagn
Chakhalyan.
The petition says that Vahagn Chakhalyan is struggling not only
for better socio-economic conditions in Javakhk, preservation of
the Javakhk Armenians' national, cultural, language, religious and
educational values, but also against forcible displacement of Armenians
for the purpose of settling Turks in the region.
For the aforementioned activities, Georgia's authorities subjected
Chakhalyan to political persecution, illegal arrest and imprisonment.
Imprisoned Chakhalyan personifies Javakhk being cleared of Armenians,
blockaded Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and all the Armenians scattered
throughout the world.
"We request that, during your forthcoming visit to Georgia you raise
the issue of acquittal and release of Vahagn Chakhalyan, who was
imprisoned on trumped up charges," says the petition.
