Chief of the General Staff of Armenia's Armed Forces Yuri Khachaturov
has left for Rome on a three-day visit during which he and members of
his delegation will meet with Italian counterparts to discuss issues
    pertaining to military ties.

According to the Armenian Defense Ministry's press service,
the meetings of the delegations will focus on expanding military
cooperation as well as issues concerning the deployment of Armenian
peacekeepers in Lebanon under Italian command as part of the UN
    Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Meanwhile, Khachaturov's name has been in the news back in Armenia in
connection with allegations made by an online media outlet suggesting
that the general's son beat four servicemen in a military unit in
Dilijan. Unnamed sources of the publication, Nrnak.com, further
claimed that in doing so he acted under the influence of alcohol.

Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan was quick
to deny any such occurrence, calling such allegations 'cheap lies'
    and 'misinformation'.

"Let this site gives the name of at least one serviceman who has
suffered from Colonel Khachaturov's actions," the spokesman told
Panorama.am, adding that Khachaturov's son was last in the military
unit in question on June 6.

It is not clear whether General Khachaturov's visit to Italy and
allegations about his son's behavior are a coincidence.
