Interesting Details of Vardan Petrosyan's Trial

During the hearing of Vardan Petrosyan's case his advocate Nikolay
Baghdasaryan drew the attention of the judge to the summons dated 4
November 2013 by Haikaram Hakobyan inviting him to the police as a
witness. By the way, Vardan Petrosyan received the summons on November
    6.

And on November 5 the warrant on arresting Vardan Petrosyan was issued.

According to the explanation of discrepancy between these documents by
Prosecutor Arthur Sargsyan, on November 4 Vardan Petrosyan was
summoned as a witness but on the same day the investigator learned
from the police that on November 3 Vardan Petrosyan had checked out of
hospital and went home, which caused the investigator to doubt that
    Vardan Petrosyan "may escape".

The advocate of the victim Ruben Baloyan said "the investigator lost
Vardan Petrosyan from sight for a moment" and therefore decided that
he should be remanded in custody.

According to another record by investigator Hakobyan published during
the trial on June 6, he telephoned Vardan Petrosyan's sister as he
checked out of hospital and Ashkhen Petrosyan informed him that his
brother is in her apartment the address of which is in the record.

According to that record, the investigator suggested going there and
interviewing him because Vardan Petrosyan's sister said he was not
well enough to go to the police but Ashkhen Petrosyan said she would
not let the investigator into her apartment.

Vardan Petrosyan also made a clarification on this record.

"The experienced investigator made a big mistake. He telephoned my
sister with a different number and after talking to my sister he found
out that my sister would not let him in," Vardan Petrosyan said. He
stated that the telephone number mentioned by the investigator in the
record does not belong to Ashkhen Petrosyan, while at that time her
number was already recorded by the investigator.

Commenting on the wrong number mentioned in the record and denying
that such a conversation between the investigator and Ashkhen
Petrosyan ever happened, Advocate Nikolay Baghdasaryan announced that
investigator Hakobyan regularly contacted him and knew that Vardan
Petrosyan had checked out of hospital and was at her sister's place.

Moreover, he had agreed that after recovery Vardan Petrosyan would be
given an opportunity to meet with the victims and try to come to terms
of settlement with them. However, by arresting Vardan Petrosyan the
investigative body has deprived his defendant of such an opportunity.
