Where do you rent a car?

I will be traveling a lot across the United States at my new job. In some places I will only need to stay for one day to take care of everything and in others I may have to stay for a week. I will need transportation all the time to move around different cities. Where is it better to rent a car? In large official rental companies or in small local ones? I have no experience with car rentals at all.

It really depends on what you prefer. The big rental companies offer good service, but they also charge quite a lot. The small local rental shops have always seemed a bit unreliable to me. There are also private owners who rent out their cars. They’re usually cheaper and much more flexible with their rules, without all those limits on mileage or leaving the city.
