AZERBAIJAN THREATENS SECURITY OF THE REGION: DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS. Annual three-day international forum
"Dynamics of Regional Security in the South Caucasus" kicked off in
Yerevan. A number of experts from the USA, Great Britain, Israel and
Turkey participate in the forum this year. As reports "Armenpress"
during the opening of the annual international conference the welcoming
addresses of the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan,
the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan
and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic
Karen Mirzoyan have been introduced to the participants.
The Consultant to the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia,
Major General Hayk Kotanjyan stated that relations between Armenia and
Azerbaijan occupy an important place in the agenda of the conference.
In frames of the annual international forum the Deputy Minister of
Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Hovakimyan made
opening remarks and underscored that Armenia has always supported
peace in the world and region and Armenia will always adhere to this
position. The presence of the Armenian peacemaking units in Kosovo
and Afghanistan is to prove this. In the course of the negotiations
for the regulation of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict Armenia always
highlighted the priority of the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Among other things the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Armenia Ashot Hovakimyan stated: "Notwithstanding,
neighboring Azerbaijan threatens security of the region. This
very country refuses the mechanisms of peaceful regulation of the
aforesaid conflict put forward by the OSCE Minsk Group; this very
country violates the ceasefire regime and performs acts of vandalism
to the Armenian cultural monuments inside of its present territory."
