    April 7, 2008

YEREVAN, APRIL 7, NOYAN TAPAN. Matthew Bryza, the American co-Chairman
of the OSCE Minsk Group, and U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Armenia Joseph
Pennington will take part in the inauguration ceremony of Serge
Sargsian, the newly-elect President of the Republic of Armenia,
to be held on April 9 from the government of the United States of
America. Joseph Pennington expressed hope during his meeting with
journalists, which was held on April 7, that they will be able to
work with the administrative board of the Republic of Armenia and
help Armenia to return to the democratic way. At the same time he
mentioned that before the recent developments the indices of Armenia
were already exposed to danger to some extent for being included in
the Millennium Challenges program and there is a rather long way to be
passed for improving the situation. In the words of Joseph Pennington,
that, in particular, concerns fair governing and freedom of media.

Gevorg Ter-Gabrielian, the Head of the "Eurasia Cooperation" fund,
mentioned during the presentation of the cooperative social investment
program of the above-mentioned fund, which was held on the same day,
that the researches conducted by them have shown that cooperative
social investments in Armenia and the responsibility for them are
not of special interest. According to him, one of the objectives of
the program is to introduce the social programs being implemented,
so as Armenian businessmen are able to do charity.

Joseph Pennington stated that the government of the United States of
America gives about 1.5-2 million dollars annually to the "Eurasia
Cooperation" fund through the International Development Agency.
