YEREVAN CITY HALL PROMISES TO "CLEAN UP" STREETS

    Tert.am
    13:39 ~U 12.02.10

A new complex initiative by Yerevan City Hall will set parameters on
    what street vendors can sell.

The Yerevan City Hall's Trade and Services Department told Tert.am that
those who sell perishable food items such as fruits and vegetables,
bread, milk, and so on, on the street and in the open air must from
now on sell them in market places designed specifically for perishable
food items, thus prohibiting the selling of such goods on the sidewalk.

According to the municipality department, implementing this program
consistently will help to regulate the outdoor trade, to ensure
that Yerevan sidewalks remain clean, to put an end to what city hall
considers to be an unhygienic practice, as the sidewalks tend to be
overloaded with selling goods and therefore almost impassable.

Yerevan City Hall has already developed and prepared motions on
the necessary amendments and additions to the existing RA Law About
Trade and Services which permits selling only the following goods
on the street: flowers, seedlings, fir tree and pine tree branches
designed for Christmas celebrations, ice cream, water, juice and other
non-alcoholic beverages that are packaged in a factory (not homemade).
