The leader of the opposition party, the Armenian National Movement
(ANM) Ararat Zurabian stated in Yerevan today that the Armenian
authorities should ratify the Armenian-Turkish protocols, without
waiting for ratification in Turkey.
"If the authorities consider the process of normalizing relations
with Turkey, the right step, it must be consistent and go through that
clearly strengthen the position of Armenia in the international arena,
regardless of the steps Turkey," said the politician. According to him,
a possible tip of the country signing the document would be illogical
and impractical step. "Turkey's refusal to ratify the documents is
a manifestation of destructiveness," said Zurabian.
ANM leader said that the inclusion of the protocol concerning the
creation of the Armenian-Turkish intergovernmental subcommittee
historians were imprudent decision. According to him, the topic
of the Armenian Genocide is sensitive for both Armenia and Turkey,
and its discussion in the light of the bilateral relations will be
a political mistake.
