    POWER PRODUCTION GROWS TO 2.4 BILLION KWH IN JANUARY-APRIL 2011

    YEREVAN

    Armenian electrical power generating facilities produced a total of
    2.4 billion KWh electricity in January-April 2011, a 13.4% rise form
    the same time span in 2010, the National Statistical service told ARKA.

    Thermal power plants produced 740 million KWh, by 2.4 times more than
    in the first four months of 2010. Production of power by hydropower
    plants was said to have contracted by 10.1% to 750.3 million KWh.

    The nuclear power plant in Metsamor produced 938.4 million KWh, by 6.2%
    less from a year earlier. The Metsamor plant accounted for 38.6% of the
    total electricity produced in January-April 2011. Thermal power plants
    produced 30.5% of all electricity while hydropower plants accounted
    for 30.9%. Armenia's sole wind power plant produced 1.7 million KWh,
    by 19% less than in the first four months of 2011.
